Sea Buckthorn, Hippophae rhamnoides

Why Lauren loves Sea Buckthorn Gemmo

What is there not to love about the extract lovingly named, sunshine in a bottle?

In microdoses for the nervous system it’s rapid action on emotions is truly a gift and what it offers immunity in higher doses earns it a place of honor in every family’s home apotheke.

Sea Buckthorn Shrub

Native to Europe, Northern Asia, and China, you will find it growing along coastal areas. It can also be found on hills and hillsides, valleys, and riverbeds. It grows 8-12 feet tall and wide into a large, thorny-stemmed, suckering, deciduous shrub. It produces attractive, willow-like silver-green leaves w and bright, long-lasting orange berries on female plants in the fall. The plant itself emits light and is well equipped with its own defense system.

It’s  aggressive and deep root system makes it particularly drought and salt-tolerant, making it useful for land reclamation and to prevent soil erosion. Even though it can withstand drought, it needs moisture and full sun to flower and produce fruit.

The fruit and leaves of Sea Buckthorn have been used over centuries as food, traditional medicine
