Hazel Shrub
Hazel can be found in its native form throughout most of Europe as an understory shrub at the edge of hardwood forests near water. The average lifespan of this species is about 80-90 years. It reaches 12-25 feet (4-8m ) and the stem is divided into multiple branches, usually branched. Due to some interesting adaptations of the leaf, Hazel has the capability to grow equally well in full sun and shade conditions.
The fruit of this tree is the Hazelnut, grouped in charming clusters of up to four nuts.
Hazel has a reputation as a magical tree. A hazel rod is supposed to protect against evil spirits, as well as being used as a wand and for water-divining.
