Found throughout the cold and temperate zone of the northern hemisphere, raspberry is very common in woods, thickets, clearings and edges. It grows on inferior land, with acidic organic matter and poorly mineralized. It is a pioneer plant that improves acidic soils. It likes to grow in company with hawthorn, hazelnut, blackthorn and dog rose.
Wild Raspberries were collected as far back as Neolithic times. Raspberry’s leaves, very rich in tannins, have been used for centuries in herbalism as astringent and anti-diarrhea, for disorders of the menstrual cycle and to facilitate the contractions of childbirth.
