Why Lauren loves Black Currant Gemmo:

If I was limited to one extract for travel, it would have to be Black Currant.  Its versatility in resolving a wide range of inflammatory symptoms is nothing short of remarkable.

The Black Currant Shrub

Native to Europe and Asia, Black Currant shrubs thrive in damp, fertile, but not waterlogged ground, requiring full sun and being entirely intolerant of drought. Moderate in size, this stout shrub grows as wide as it is tall, about 5 feet (1.5 meters).  As early as the 11th century, Black currant shrubs were cultivated in Russian monastery gardens.

A hundred years later they had spread to Europe coming to the attention of St. Hildegard of Bingen, the German Benedictine abbess, and mystic. She recommended buds as well as each part of the plant. The reputation of the plant spread rapidly and by the 17th century, it was considered a panacea for all ails.
