Olive Tree
This extremely long-lived, slow-growing tree reaches only 8-15m over its lifetime of up to 1000 years. It flourishes on limestone slopes and craigs and coastal climate conditions. Its preference for poor soil is so strong that if planted in rich soil,it is prone to disease and will produce an inferior quality of oil. Their sturdy and extensive root systems allow long periods without rainwater.
The vitality is so great that the tree can fully regenerate if the above-ground structure has been destroyed. Historically, this species has always been appreciated first for its fruit and wood, and secondly, for the oil.
