The Juniper Tree
This species of juniper is found in the cooler parts of Europe. It can take the shape of a prostate, creeping shrub, bushy shrub, or an erect small tree of 30 ft.tall.
It has sharp needle leaves and the fruits are cones (¼-½ “ in diameter) which appear like berries. It can be one of the slowest growing plants on earth in some regions. The wood has an aromatic scent and is resistant to insects and rot and was used for elaborate purposes: temples, palace roofs, clothes chests, coffins. A sacred tree among the Celts and Germans, Juniper was considered a protective shrub capable of driving away evil spirits.
