The Common Box Shrub
The Boxwood is native to western and southern Europe, Himalayan Plateau and Japan and east through the northern Mediterranean region to Turkey. It is a dense evergreen shrub typically growing on soils of chalk or limestone, usually as an understorey in forests of larger trees. It also can be seen in open dry montane scrub, particularly in the Mediterranean region. It has an incredible ability to adapt and exceptional longevity being able to live up to 600 years.
