The Field Maple Tree

Native to Europe and the Caucasus, Field Maple is widespread throughout much of Europe, North Africa and Western Asia.  Thriving in  limestone plateau forests and forest edges, in hedgerows, fallow land and pre-woodland it enjoys the company of beeches, oaks and hornbeams. This small tree of 20 to 24 feet (7 to 8 meters) can live up to 150 years and has strong, deep roots. It grows slowly but easily colonizes the soil. Its hard and strong wood has been used to make tools and musical instruments; Antonio Stradivarius was the first violin maker to use it to make his precious violins. The Ancient Greeks associated it with Phobos, the god of fear which is interesting as the extract in a microdose reduces fearful states.
